Sledding
In the year-round family mountain resort BACHLEDKA, non-skiers are guaranteed to enjoy winter too. One of the most popular attractions is the toboggan run, offering a safe and joyful descent straight from the ridge of the Spišská Magura all the way down to the central car park in Bachledova dolina.
Track Parameters and the Descent Experience
The track is designed to be as safe as possible and suitable for families with children, combining fun with beautiful views:
- Length and profile: The toboggan run stretches an impressive 2.5 km. It has a wonderfully smooth, gentle gradient – enough to keep the sledges moving, yet safe enough that they never pick up excessive speed.
- Route and views: It starts at the summit of the Spišská Magura (by the ski school) and winds through the snow-covered forest, with several clearings offering stunning views of the snow-capped Belianske Tatras and the cottages down in the valley.
- Access: The Cable Car from Bachledova dolina comfortably takes you up to the start of the toboggan run.
Evening Sledging (BACHLEDKA Magical Land)
The sledging experience takes on a whole new dimension after dark. The attraction is closely linked to the BACHLEDKA Magical Land project:
- Operating period: Evening sledging runs from the second half of December to the first half of March (regularly every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).
- Lighting conditions: The track is not artificially lit along its full length (for safety reasons, only the sections with bends are illuminated).
- Head torch rules: A head torch is compulsory for safe riding at night. The resort strongly recommends bringing your own head torch, as supplies are limited. Torches are only rented together with sledges hired from the resort (visitors bringing their own sledges are not entitled to rent a resort head torch).
Sledge Rental and Ticket Types
If you don't have your own sledge, the resort is fully prepared:
- Rental: You can rent sledges right at the top of the Spišská Magura at Gorgy's Ski School.
- Tickets: You can ideally combine sledging with a visit to the Treetop Walk (combined ticket), or purchase a standalone sledging cable car ticket and enjoy several runs in a row.
Excellent Accessibility for Slovak and Polish Tourists Alike
Thanks to its excellent location, the Bachledka toboggan run is an ideal destination for a day or evening trip from the surrounding tourist centres:
- From the High Tatras: Just around 15–20 km (approximately 20 minutes by car from Tatranská Lomnica).
- From Poprad: A comfortable 30 km drive (approx. 35 minutes by car).
- From Poland: Excellent accessibility from the popular resorts of Białka Tatrzańska (approx. 20 km / 25 minutes) and Zakopané (approx. 40 km / 45 minutes), making the attraction a perfect cross-border family experience.
Practical Information: Dependence on Natural Snow
- Current track status: Operation of the toboggan run is 100% dependent on sufficient natural snow.
- Daily testing: Every morning, resort staff test the track and assess its safety.
- Recommendation for visitors: Before planning a trip, it is essential to always check the current status of the run (open or closed) online on the resort's website. The daily opening hours of the track follow the opening hours of the resort and the Cable Car itself.
