Ski-touring

Ski touring, a mountain sport that has surged in popularity in recent years, has a firm place in the year-round family mountain resort BACHLEDKA. During the winter season, ski tourers have access to an official, safely marked ascent route, ideal for fitness training and for beginners just getting to know the sport.

Ascent Route Parameters (Yellow Markers)

The route is designed to minimise collisions with skiers, running partly along the edge of the piste and mostly outside it altogether.

  • Ascent line: The route starts in Bachledova dolina, right by the La Gamba Après Ski restaurant, and finishes at the summit of the Spišská Magura near the Treetop Walk.
  • Markings: The ascent line is clearly marked in the terrain with yellow portable pole markers (shown on the resort maps as a dashed blue line).
  • Statistics: The total length of the route is 2.3 km with a pleasant 264-metre climb. The ascent takes an average ski tourer around 30 minutes.
  • Descent: The return to the valley is typically made down the groomed Bachledka I piste.

Safety Rules and the White Code for Ski Tourers

Movement on the ski runs is governed by strict operating rules. Ski tourers are required to respect the following principles:

  • Operating hours (9:00 – 16:00): Ski touring is permitted exclusively during this time. Between 16:00 and 9:00 the slopes are strictly closed! Entering them is life-threatening due to piste grooming (risk of fatal injury from snow groomer cables and snowmaking cables).
  • Ascent rules: Ascent is only permitted along the marked route (behind the yellow markers), and ski tourers must always walk in single file, never side by side.
  • Crossing the piste: When crossing the piste, a skier on the slope always has right of way. The piste may only be crossed at designated points and with sufficient spacing.
  • Prohibitions: It is strictly forbidden to move onto closed sections of the slopes, and walking up the piste with a dog is not permitted.
  • Nature protection and responsibility: The routes lie within the territory of the TANAP and PIENAP national parks. Movement is at your own risk, and visitors must respect the instructions of the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) and resort staff, who are entitled to remove a ski tourer from the route for breaking the rules.

Excellent Accessibility for Slovak and Polish Tourists Alike

The resort is highly attractive to ski tourers thanks to its quick accessibility and excellent facilities at both the start (La Gamba) and the finish (PANORAMA Restaurant):

  • From the High Tatras: Just around 15–20 km (approximately 20 minutes by car from Tatranská Lomnica).
  • From Poprad: A comfortable 30 km drive (approx. 35 minutes by car).
  • From Poland: Excellent accessibility from the popular resorts of Białka Tatrzańska (approx. 20 km / 25 minutes) and Zakopané (approx. 40 km / 45 minutes).
