Cross-country skiing
For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, the surroundings of the year-round family mountain resort BACHLEDKA offer some of the most beautiful winter experiences in the region. The main attraction is a panoramic cross-country ski trail that runs directly along the ridge of Spišská Magura, combining active exercise at an altitude of around 1,100 m above sea level with unforgettable views of the snow-covered Belianske Tatras.
Spišská Magura Ridge Route
The ridge route is ideal for a half-day or full-day sporting trip and runs above the distinctive village of Ždiar the entire way.
- Route length: The trail is 7 km one way (14 km in total there and back).
- Starting point in Bachledka: Convenient access is provided by a 10-seater cable car. After reaching the top of Spišská Magura, head towards the Bachledka slope – the entrance to the cross-country ski trail is right at its beginning, on the right-hand side (behind the photo spot).
- Starting point in Ždiar: At the opposite end, the trail leads to the Ždiar – Príslop area (the junction by the sign, near the Strachan ski resort), allowing you to choose your starting and finishing point flexibly.
- Trail grooming and technique: The trail is regularly groomed by a snow groomer after every snowfall. As it does not have a prepared classic track (grooves), its wide profile is ideal primarily for the skating technique, but it can also be easily managed using the classic technique.
- Facilities at the starting point: Before or after their activity, cross-country skiers can warm up and enjoy refreshments at Panorama Restaurant, right on the ridge.
- Equipment rental: If you are just starting with cross-country skiing or do not want to bring your own equipment, you can conveniently rent a complete cross-country skiing set directly from the resort's Ski rent in Bachledova Valley.
More cross-country skiing tips in the surrounding area
If strong winds are blowing on the ridge or you are looking for flatter terrain or snowmaking systems, the Ždiar and Zamagurie region offers excellent alternatives:
- Monková Valley and the meadows in Ždiar: Directly below the steep cliffs of Ždiarska vidla and Havran, cross-country ski tracks are laid out in the meadows at the mouth of Monková Valley when snow conditions are good. The relatively flat to gently rolling terrain is ideal for families. Beautiful, photogenic tracks (often made by hikers themselves for the classic technique) can also be found in the meadows around Strednica.
- Winter cycle route Spišská Belá – Tatranská Kotlina: The well-known 9 km-long asphalt cycle route becomes a popular cross-country ski trail in winter. With no climbs at all, it is completely safe, easy and ideal for classic technique training on a prepared track.
- Kotelnica Białczańska (Poland): Professional trails can be found just across the border, approximately 25 minutes by car from the resort. Their greatest advantage is that they are covered by snowmaking systems and illuminated, offering top conditions (for both classic and skating) even in the evening.
Group packages and team-building activities
Are you looking for an active winter team-building activity that combines sporting performance with relaxation in beautiful nature? Cross-country skiing along the ridge of Spišská Magura at the BACHLEDKA resort is a great choice for corporate teams, sports clubs and larger groups of friends who want to experience the winter mountains differently.
Why is cross-country skiing at BACHLEDKA ideal for groups?
- Panoramic ridge trails: Enjoy kilometres of groomed cross-country ski trails (towards Ždiar – Príslop) with breathtaking views of the snow-covered Belianske Tatras and the Pieniny Mountains.
- Comfortable start without effort: No exhausting climb at the beginning. A 10-seater cable car from Bachledova Valley will comfortably take your entire group and its equipment up to the ridge, so you can start cross-country skiing right at the top.
- Cross-country skiing school for beginners: Do you have colleagues on your team who have never been on cross-country skis? We will arrange instructors from our ski school who will teach them the basics in a safe and fun way. This means that everyone can truly take part in the team-building activity.
- Timed cross-country ski races: Bring out some healthy competition in your team! For closed groups and companies, we can organise private cross-country ski races with professional timing. An ideal activity for strengthening team spirit and creating unforgettable experiences.
- Equipment for the entire group: Don't have your own cross-country skis? No problem. By prior arrangement, our rental service can provide complete cross-country skiing equipment for your colleagues or friends.
- Healthy exercise for all levels: The ridge route offers sections suitable for complete beginners as well as active athletes.
- Tailor-made individual packages: For corporate clients and larger organised groups, we do not use universal templates but prepare individual tailor-made offers. We can flexibly combine a cross-country skiing trip with other experiences at the resort – such as well-deserved relaxation, hot tea, hot soup or a shared lunch at the designer Panorama Restaurant right on the ridge, a walk along the snow-covered Treetop Walk (or a visit to the evening light exhibition Winter Wonderland Bachledka), or a combination with sledding for team members who prefer downhill activities to cross-country skiing. Combining it with downhill skiing is also possible.
