Ancient traditions come to life: Goral Day in Bachledka will present traditional “Priadky” and bring a summer barbecue to the PANORAMA Restaurant terrace
The year-round mountain resort BACHLEDKA cordially invites you on Saturday, August 29, 2026, to the next installment of the popular Goral Day event. From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the terrace of the design PANORAMA Restaurant will transform into a stage for ancient customs, energetic dancing, and singing performed by the Goral Folklore Ensemble from Ždiar. The theme of this day will be the traditional “Priadky” (spinning gatherings). The great folklore atmosphere will be complemented by the aroma of fantastic food from a summer barbecue with breathtaking views of the Belianske Tatras.
A Return to the Times of Traditional Spinning Gatherings
The customs and rituals associated with a Ždiar wedding are among the most colorful manifestations of our folk culture, and many of its parts have been preserved to this day. Are you wondering how our ancestors spent their long evenings? In the past, “priadky” were regular gatherings of women and girls (usually from 14 to 15 years of age), which were primarily intended for spinning. They took place mainly in the winter period when the heavy work in the fields subsided. By then, the harvested flax had to be thoroughly processed into tow, from which threads were then spun onto spindles. While the women had their hands full with yarn, the men during this period mostly repaired and prepared agricultural and work tools for the rest of the year.
Laughter, Dance, and Goral „godki“
However, the spinning gatherings were far from just about hard work. When the boys arrived at the gathering, the atmosphere changed instantly. The work smoothly turned into merry fun combined with live music, singing, and dancing. The boys did not spare humorous gestures and liked to tease the girls—for example, by hiding their spindles with a smile.
These gatherings were also an ideal opportunity for village storytellers, mostly older and more experienced people. They entertained those present with so-called „godki“ – shorter, engaging stories and tales that always had a witty and humorous punchline. Exactly these authentic moments full of laughter, music, and customs will be demonstrated to you during the day by the members of the Goral Folklore Ensemble from Ždiar.
Live Folklore and a Barbecue in the Clouds
In addition to a rich cultural experience and demonstrations of customs, you can also look forward to excellent gastronomy. Throughout the event, a summer barbecue will take place on the terrace of the PANORAMA Restaurant. Visitors will thus be able to enjoy juicy specialties right off the grill while watching spirited folklore performances. The combination of Goral music, fragrant food, and panoramic views of the Belianske Tatras peaks guarantees an unforgettable experience for the whole family.
