More than 1,000 trees planted and hundreds of participants involved: Earth Day in Bachledka once again connected children with nature

Bachledova Valley, 7 May 2026The family mountain resort Bachledka once again joined the global Earth Day initiative in 2026, continuing its long-term efforts to protect nature and support sustainable development. In cooperation with Pieniny National Park, the resort prepared a programme for local schools that combined environmental education with practical help for nature.

A total of 444 children and teachers from 6 nearby schools and children’s homes took part in the event, jointly contributing to the restoration of the landscape by planting more than 1,000 young trees of native species, such as spruce, fir and beech. The planting took place in selected locations requiring forest regeneration, for example after damage caused by windstorms. The programme also included cleaning up nature in the surroundings of the mountain resort and Spišská Magura. Thanks to their joint efforts, participants managed to collect almost 500 kilograms of waste from nearby forests and meadows. During the clean-up, volunteers came across not only ordinary litter, but also several unusual finds. These included ski poles, ski boots, gloves, payment cards, Polish zloty and even a tyre. These curious discoveries also served as a reminder that waste does not belong in nature and that caring for the environment in which we live, do sport and relax is a shared responsibility of us all.

During the day, there was also expert interpretation directly in the field, provided by PIENAP staff. The children learned more about how a forest is formed, why it is important to protect nature, how to behave on hiking trails and what role biodiversity plays in the healthy functioning of the landscape.

Earth Day in Bachledka is not only a symbolic reminder of the importance of our planet, but above all a practical step towards building a responsible relationship with the environment and strengthening ecological awareness among the younger generation. The event shows that children, too, can make a real contribution to nature protection through their activities and become part of positive change.

The whole day was carried out in the spirit of the values on which Bachledka has long been built – respect for nature, responsibility and active care for the landscape. Such initiatives form part of the resort’s strategy, “Development with Respect for Nature”, which provides a solid foundation for its operation.

Earth Day in Bachledka has therefore confirmed again this year that when goodwill, knowledge and joint effort come together, the result can be not only a more beautiful and healthier landscape, but also a stronger connection between people and nature.
