Live Folklore, Dancing, and a Barbecue on the PANORAMA Restaurant Terrace
The all-year-round family mountain resort BACHLEDKA invites you on Saturday, July 25, 2026, to the Day of Goral Traditions, which will carry the theme “Svadba – Veseľe” (Wedding – Celebration)! From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a rich program full of energetic dancing and captivating singing performed by the Folklore Ensemble Goral from Ždiar awaits all lovers of traditions.
The terrace of the design PANORAMA Restaurant will transform into a live stage, resounding with the temperamental tones of traditional Goral wedding music and the strong voices of singers, complemented by the aroma of great food. Visitors will be able to enjoy juicy specialties straight from the grill while watching folklore performances with a breathtaking view of the Belianske Tatras.
Colorful Customs and Traditions of a Ždiar Wedding
The customs and rituals associated with a Ždiar wedding belong to the most colorful expressions of our folk culture, and many of its elements have been preserved to this day. In the past, the whole event began with the so-called “nomoviny”. After the families agreed on the marriage, the young couple went to register at the parish, and three Sundays before the wedding, their marriage was solemnly announced. It was precisely on the third Sunday that the first two groomsmen rode on horses to personally invite people to the wedding. Interestingly, the weddings themselves traditionally took place on Wednesdays in the past.
After an emotional farewell (odobierka), the wedding party marched to the church accompanied by music. On the way from the church to the reception, an obstacle awaited the wedding guests—the famous “gate” (brána), organized by the village people, which was an inseparable and cheerful part of every wedding. The subsequent reception (Veseľe) took place in the homes of both the bride and the groom to the sounds of a string band or a heligonka (button accordion). Honest, homemade dishes were served, such as jaješnica or moskoľe. The entertainment included a variety of dances—from touching girls’ dances during the farewell to the bride, through the ceremonial ruvny dance (krucená, originating from the Spiš region), to the temperamental Goral dance, which included figures like cifer, kresaný, and skokacka.
Although the format of weddings has gradually changed nowadays, their strong symbolism, joy of music, and ancestral legacy live on in the hearts of Gorals to this day. It is exactly this magical atmosphere of a traditional “Veseľe” that the Ždiar folklorists will bring directly to the ridge of Spišská Magura, right beneath the Treetop Walk.
